Wynnertech, together with its Ukrainian partner Extreme, participated in the VI International Conference and Exhibition, CISOLAR 2017 in Odessa, Ukraine, on 11th and 12th of April. The attendees of the exhibition had the opportunity to know first-hand the products and services offered by Wynnertech and Extreme. The two companies recently has signed an agreement that made Extreme an exclusive distributor of Wynnertech’s ALBA Solar Inverters in Ukrainian territory. In addition, for the occasion, the scale model of the Alba was shown at the exhibition. Alba is a compact high power solar inverter, up to 3.5 MW with the best € / watt ratio on the market.
For two days, the exhibition brought together professionals and companies in the photovoltaic solar energy sector from different countries, in particular from Eastern Europe. Furthermore, the participants had the opportunity to attend conferences and round tables on issues dealing with the development of solar energy in Ukraine and the opportunities the sector can offer.
With a growing energy demand and increasingly greater difficulties to meet the country’s fossil fuel and coal demand, Ukraine has the need to invest and accelerate development plans for renewable energy sources, where solar energy will play a major role. Nevertheless/In spite of this, Ukraine has taken modest steps in the development of photovoltaic solar energy in the country. While in 2015 the total installed capacity reached roughly 800 MW (1), in 2017 a strong growth is expected in the number of utility scale projects, motivated in part by the introduction of the “Green Tariff”. “The Green Tariff” policy is a feed-in tariff (FIT) scheme for electricity generated from renewable energy sources, and was introduced in Ukraine in 2009. This scheme will be open until 1st of January 2030 (2).
Among the debates and conferences held at CISOLAR2017 about solar energy development in Ukraine, it is important to particularly highlight those concerning the efforts carried out by the Ukrainian State Agency for Exclusion Zone Management (Chernobyl) (SEZA), to accelerate the commissioning of photovoltaic power plants in the exclusion zone. According to Vitaliy Petruk, SEZA chairman, there are currently 58 projects under study. The Ukrainian government intends to select those that are best suited to the set criteria, for approval and issuance of construction permits. Based on current progress, the first photovoltaic power plant in the exclusion zone is expected at the end of 2017.
